The Howland Green Business Centre, in Markham, ON, will be Canada’s first net-positive energy office building, producing more energy than it consumes, when completed. Innovative features will include enhanced insulated concrete framework (ICF) with a thermal resistance value of at least R-40, R-80 roof insulation, and fiberglass windows employing low-emissivity argon gas with resistance values up to R-9. Rooftop photovoltaic arrays will generate 515,000 kWh of energy. Geothermal technology with automatic load sharing will heat and cool the building. A water recycling system will harvest all rainwater and recycle it onsite.
The building will offer 59,000 sq. ft. of office space, stand three stories high, and have two levels of underground parking. It is being built by Howland Green Homes Ltd.
