On February 7, 2017, RCI Past President and Fellow Johann L. Willers, FRCI, RRC, PE, officiated the opening and counting of ballots for the Region I, II, III and VII director elections. Running unopposed were Michael Violette, RRC, PE, for Region I director; Gene Keeton, for Region III director; and Bryan Fishburn, RRO, for Region VII director. Vying for Region II director were candidates Jacob Hébert and Christopher Giffin, RRC, AIA, with Giffin taking the majority vote. See the position statements of each elected region director below.
The region directors will begin their two-year terms at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting of the Members on Monday, March 19, during the 2017 convention in Anaheim, CA.

Michael Violette, RRC, PE, Region I Director
Since becoming involved in RCI, I have recognized the value of its leading educational programs for building envelope professionals, and the registration programs that provide professional growth and development opportunities to many in our industry. I also recognize the value one receives from becoming an active member in this organization. As the RCI Region I director, I will strive to accomplish the following:
- Represent the region at RCI board meetings and present the region’s position on policies and issues.
- Promote chapter growth and development in the region.
- Supplement chapter educational opportunities with a region-wide educational seminar.
- Promote the value of RCI registration programs and inclusion of RCI professions in public and municipal projects.
- Support existing chapters to encourage active participation with new members and increase membership.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Region I director.
Christopher W. Giffin, RRC, AIA, NCARB, Region II Director
The success of RCI’s regions depends on its leadership’s ability to energize the member base and encourage professional growth in the areas of roofing, waterproofing, and exterior envelope consulting by providing topical educational programs that give exceptional opportunities for learning and networking. This is especially true when identifying our more junior future leaders and encouraging college students to get excited about the industry. Current and future leadership must continue to seek other avenues for expansion while maintaining the intent of RCI’s founders.
Our industry is evolving at an ever-increasing rate, and it is incumbent upon us to stay current with the trends while maintaining a level of common sense regarding new technologies and practices. If I am fortunate to be elected Region II director, I intend to continue the progress of my predecessors by seeking opportunities whereby building envelope consultants can compete in a fair and open public arena. I will assist RCI in all current efforts to protect our work and the integrity of the public procurement process. I will also strive to encourage our young professionals to become leaders in the profession.
Gene Keeton, CxA+BE, BECxP, Region III Director
As with so many RCI members, I became involved with RCI for the education and credential opportunities. As a consultant, it is extremely important to me to have good education and a means to distinguish those with experience from those without. By becoming more involved with RCI and the industry, I can give back to the industry what it has given me: the opportunity to build better. There is no good reason for a building to leak, and through educating ourselves and the industry, we can build better.
As the Region III director, I would like to be your voice to RCI and extend our voice to the industry. I will assist our membership in gaining the education they desire and help RCI build upon great education opportunities for our members and the industry.
I appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
Bryan C.D. Fishburn, RRO, Region VII Director
The cornerstone of RCI is the strength volunteers bring to the organization. The continued renewal of our membership and drawing young, diverse professionals is essential to the future of RCI. I look forward to serving Region VII and the organization in the following ways:
- Support Region VII and RCI Ontario Chapter Board and members in their professional endeavors.
- Continue to advocate on behalf of RCI and support endeavors to educate clients about the benefits of including building science professionals as part of their design teams.
- Promote active involvement for emerging professionals, and encourage RCI outreach to higher learning institutions.
- Encourage more members of Region VII to pursue professional designations.
- Continue to promote the benefits and prestige of the Document Competition to Region VII members.
Thank you for the opportunity to run for this office and to serve RCI.
